भक्तकवि प पू स्वामी वरदानंद भारती ( पूर्वाश्रमीचे अनंत दामोदर आठवले ) विरचित ‘श्रीकृष्णकथामृत’ काव्य, आधुनिक काव्याचा एक चांगला नमुना आहे. अत्यंत भावपूर्ण, प्रासादिक, रसालंकारांनी परिप्लुत आणि विविध सामाजिक तथा राजकीय विषयांना स्पर्श करीत गायिली गेलेली ही कृष्णकथा – हे महाकाव्य ‘ श्रीकृष्ण कथामृत ‘ स्वामीजींनी १९५० मध्ये रचले. त्यांच्या या काव्यकृतीवरून ते श्रीकृष्ण-भक्तीनें रंगलेले आहेत हें सिद्ध होत आहे. अध्यात्ममार्गांत परमात्म्याचें भक्तिपर कीर्तन करणें यासारखें दुसरें कोणतेंही कार्य महत्त्वाचे समजलें जात नाही. महाभारत व श्रीमद्भागवत या दोन्ही प्रसिद्ध मूळ ग्रंथांचे मनन करून मराठी भाषेत सोप्या शब्दांत पद्य रूपानें श्रीकृष्ण-कथा यांनी गाइली आहे व ती अत्यंत गोड झाली आहे. म्हणून या पुस्तकास दिलेलें श्रीकृष्णकथामृत हे नांव यथार्थ आहे.
